Create QR codes and barcodes
A scancode is an image with its own editor. You set the content, pick a style and save the rendering into the gallery. The full configuration is embedded in the saved PNG, so reopening a scancode restores every setting.
Create a scancode
Section titled “Create a scancode”- Click QR Code at the bottom of the left navigation, or choose Create Scancode from the capture button’s menu.
- Pick a Code Type.
- Enter the content, or pick a Payload Type and fill in its fields.
- Style the code (QR only) and check the Scannability score.
- Click Save to Gallery.
The code is saved as a PNG into the folder currently open in the gallery, and a Scancode saved message confirms it. If you save again while the editor is still open, the same file is updated. Undo and redo work for every setting, and typing in one field counts as a single undo step.
Code types
Section titled “Code types”| Code Type | Content |
|---|---|
| QR Code | Any text, or a structured payload (below) |
| Code 128 | Alphanumeric data |
| EAN-13 (ISBN) | 13 digits |
| UPC-A | 12 digits |
| Code 39 | A–Z, 0–9 and - . $ / + % and space |
| Data Matrix, PDF417, Aztec | Text or data |
For the 1D barcodes (Code 128, EAN-13, UPC-A and Code 39), Show text under bars prints the encoded digits below the bars.
Size sets the pixel size of the saved image: 512, 1024 (default), 2048 or 4096 px. Larger sizes print more reliably.
QR payload types
Section titled “QR payload types”Picking a Payload Type replaces the content box with dedicated fields:
| Payload | Fields |
|---|---|
| Text, URL | Content |
| To, Subject, Body (scanning opens a draft; nothing is sent) | |
| Phone | Phone Number (include the country code) |
| SMS | Phone Number, Message |
| WiFi | Network Name (SSID), Password, security (WPA / WPA2, WEP, None (open)) |
| vCard | First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone, Organization |
| OTP | Base32 Secret, Label, Issuer |
Error Correction controls how much of a QR code can be damaged or covered and still decode: L – 7%, M – 15% (default), Q – 25% or H – 30%. Higher levels make the code denser.
Style a QR code
Section titled “Style a QR code”Styling applies to QR codes only; other code types render plain.
- Style: Default, Rounded or Fancy. This sets the module and eye shapes in one step, and any change below overrides it.
- Foreground / Background: hex colors (default
#000000on#FFFFFF). Dark modules on a light background scan most reliably. - Module Shape: 13 shapes, from Square (most reliable) through Rounded, Circle, the connected shapes, Diamond and Squircle, to decorative Leaf, Wave and Blob, and the sparse Dot and Dot grid.
- Eye Outer / Eye Inner: Square, Rounded or Circle for the three corner finder patterns.
- Art Theme: Neon Glow, Liquid Glass, Connected Squircle, Cut Corner Tech, Inset Rings, Stripe Eyes or Paint Splash. Intensity defaults to 50 (double-click to reset), and Variant is Conservative, Bold or Pastel.
- Logo: click Choose… to place an image in the centre. Scale sets its width as a fraction of the code (default 20%).
Scannability
Section titled “Scannability”The Scannability score (0–100) is a static check of contrast, quiet zone, module size and decorative geometry. It’s green from 80, amber from 60 and red below that, and any warnings are listed underneath. It grades your settings and doesn’t actually scan the code, so test anything important with a real phone.
If a code won’t scan, try these in order:
- Increase contrast.
- Lower the art theme’s Intensity.
- Shrink the logo Scale.
- Switch back to Square modules.
Use a saved scancode
Section titled “Use a saved scancode”- Reopen: open it from the gallery like any other item. The editor restores the content and every style setting.
- Find: search with the
qr:orscancode:qualifier. The encoded content is also added as a tag. See Search. - Drag out: drag the preview straight into another app to drop a PNG.
- Vector formats: the MCP
exporttool writes a scancode as PNG, SVG, PDF, JPEG, WebP or EPS. See the MCP overview.
