Install the SuperCapture browser extension
The browser extension adds full-page, area, slide-deck, image, video and bookmark capture to your browser. It sends everything to the SuperCapture Mac app on the same computer, so install the Mac app first and keep it running.
Supported browsers
Section titled “Supported browsers”| Browser | Where to get it |
|---|---|
| Chrome | Chrome Web Store |
| Brave and other Chromium browsers | The same Chrome Web Store listing |
| Firefox 142 or later | Firefox Add-ons |
| Safari | Included with the Mac app; nothing to download |
| Edge | Not yet released |
In the Mac app, Settings → Browser Extension → Get Extension opens the extensions page with these links.
Chrome, Brave and Firefox
Section titled “Chrome, Brave and Firefox”- Open the store listing for your browser and add the extension.
- Pin it to the toolbar so the SuperCapture icon is one click away. The browser’s extensions menu has the pin option.
- With the Mac app running, click the SuperCapture icon. The popup should show Connected with a green dot.
Safari
Section titled “Safari”The Safari extension ships inside the SuperCapture app, so it’s already installed. You only need to turn it on:
- Open Safari and choose Safari → Settings….
- Click Extensions.
- Tick SuperCapture.
- Click the SuperCapture icon in the Safari toolbar and check that it shows Connected.
How the extension connects
Section titled “How the extension connects”The extension connects to the Mac app on your computer. It doesn’t go through a cloud service. The first time it connects, the extension pairs with the app automatically, and the app lists it under Settings → Browser Extension → Connected Browsers.
If SuperCapture asks Connect browser extension?, click Allow only if you just installed, updated or reset the extension in that browser.
The popup shows two version numbers: App, the Mac app’s version, and Ext, the extension’s version. Include both when you report a problem.
Permissions the extension asks for
Section titled “Permissions the extension asks for”Chrome and Firefox show the extension’s permissions when you install it:
- The SuperCapture app on this computer (
localhost), to hand captures to the app. - All websites, to capture pages, save images you right-click or drag, and detect slide decks and video pages.
- Tabs, scripting, context menus and storage, to capture the active tab, add the SuperCapture right-click menu and remember your settings.
To stop the in-page features (drag-to-save and ⌥ Option right-click image saving) without uninstalling, switch off Enable on pages in the popup. The capture buttons keep working.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”The popup says Disconnected.
- Make sure SuperCapture is running. Look for its icon in the menu bar.
- Close the popup and open it again.
Still Disconnected after you reset or reinstalled SuperCapture. The extension still holds its pairing with the old install. In Chrome, Brave or Firefox, click Reset connection in the popup to forget it, and the extension pairs again. Reinstalling the extension also clears the pairing.
Safari doesn’t show the extension. Confirm SuperCapture is in your Applications folder and has been opened at least once. Then check Safari → Settings… → Extensions again.
A capture button is missing.
- Capture Slides only shows its site name on supported deck sites. Elsewhere you get the generic version.
- Save Video only appears on recognized video pages.
