Take your first screenshot with SuperCapture

This walkthrough takes one screenshot from start to finish: capture it, find it, annotate it and share it. It assumes you have installed SuperCapture and granted Screen Recording.

  1. Press ⌃⇧C (Control-Shift-C) from any app. You can also click the SuperCapture icon in the menu bar and choose Image Capture…. The capture overlay appears, with a toolbar at the top of the display.

  2. Choose what to capture:

    • A region: drag a rectangle.
    • A window: hover over it until it’s highlighted, then click.
    • A whole display: hover over an empty part of the desktop, then click.
    • Every display at once: press Return.
  3. Press Esc at any time to cancel.

The screenshot is saved to your library and copied to the clipboard, so you can paste it right away.

What appears after the capture depends on Settings → Capture → After Capture. The default, Auto - gallery on multiple monitors, works like this:

  • With more than one display, the gallery comes forward with the new capture in it.
  • With a single display, SuperCapture stays out of the way so it doesn’t cover what you just captured. You get a system notification instead. Click it to open the gallery.

You can also open the gallery any time from the menu bar (Gallery). The menu bar menu also shows your three most recent captures as thumbnails.

  1. In the gallery, double-click the capture, or select it and press Return or E. It opens in the image editor.

  2. Pick a tool from the toolbar, or press its key: A Arrow, B Box, T Text, S Step marker, R Redact.

  3. Drag on the image to add the annotation. Press ⌘Z to undo, ⇧⌘Z to redo.

  4. Press Esc to return to the Select tool, and press it again to close the editor.

Annotations stay editable, so you can reopen the capture later and move or change them. See Annotate images for every tool.

  • Copy: press ⌘C in the editor to copy the annotated image, or select captures in the gallery and press ⌘C to copy the files.
  • Drag: drag a thumbnail from the gallery, or from the menu bar menu, into Mail, Slack, a document or any other app.
• Share: press ⌘E in the editor to open sharing options, or ⇧⌘E to export a PNG.

After a capture is saved, SuperCapture processes it in the background. Processing includes text recognition (OCR), which runs on your Mac. A few moments later you can find the capture by typing a word that appears in it. See Search your library and screenshot search.
